Depending on the localisation of the tumour, the corresponding section of the intestine with the supplying blood vessels is removed. This is referred to as oncological resection as the lymph nodes that run along the vessels are also removed. Thus, the definitive tumour stage including the lymph node involvement can be determined in the examination of the tissue. Therefore, following the surgery, a new presentation is always made to our tumour board to determine the further therapy and follow-up care. Depending on the tumour stage, chemotherapy may be indicated. Follow-up care is strongly recommended regardless of the tumour stage.
